Your Weight Loss Service

You want to lose weight safely, with personalised support from people who understand what works - and what doesn’t. You want expert, medical guidance that helps you stay on track and feel confident along the way.

That’s exactly what SDHC’s Weight Loss Service offers. You can choose face-to-face or virtual appointments, designed to fit around your life and provide consistent, caring support at every stage of your journey.

Where appropriate, your plan may include medical treatments to help manage food cravings, slow stomach emptying, and keep you feeling fuller for longer - supporting sustainable, healthy change.

Unlike many online programmes, your service will be delivered by qualified GPs and nurses who ensure your progress remains safe, effective, and fully supported.

Personalised Support, Delivered Safely

If you're considering weight loss support, you want to know that your health is in safe hands. At SDHC, we offer a service designed around you - combining flexibility, clinical expertise, and a commitment to safety at every stage.

Whether you prefer to meet in person or connect remotely, our face-to-face and virtual appointments are delivered by qualified clinicians who take the time to understand your goals, your lifestyle, and your health history. You’ll receive tailored advice, evidence-based strategies, and where appropriate, access to medical interventions that help manage appetite and support long-term weight management.

Our Clinicians

Our Medical Director Dr Miriam Malak is an expert in lifestyle medicine. Miriam has undertaken specialist training with the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine and is fully accredited by the National Medical Weight Loss Programme. Miriam is supported by GPs and registered nurses who have been specially trained in weight loss.

Is Medical Weight Loss Treatment Right for You?

Before starting any medical weight loss treatment, it’s important to understand whether it’s clinically appropriate for your individual health needs.

As part of your journey with us, you’ll undergo a full assessment. This is your opportunity to speak with a qualified clinician who will take the time to understand your health history, current medications, and personal goals. Together, you’ll explore:

  • Any existing health conditions or treatments
  • Your medical background
  • Your Body Mass Index (BMI)
  • The potential benefits of weight loss in your case
  • Any risks or side effects associated with treatment options

This assessment is designed to protect your wellbeing. Certain conditions - such as a history of medullary thyroid cancer, gallbladder disease, or pancreatitis - may mean that some treatments are not suitable for you. If that’s the case, your clinician will explain why and guide you towards safe, effective alternatives.

If Medical Treatment Isn’t Suitable for You

If you're not medically eligible for weight loss injections or other clinical interventions, it’s natural to feel disappointed. However, your safety is paramount - and there are still effective, personalised options available to support your goals.

Our clinical team is highly experienced in all aspects of weight management, including non-medicated approaches. You will receive tailored guidance focused on sustainable lifestyle changes, nutritional support, and behavioural strategies that align with your health needs and personal circumstances.

Beginning Your Clinically-Supported Weight Loss Programme

Pre-Service Questionnaire

You will be asked to complete a Pre-Appointment Questionnaire. This is to allow us to

  • fully understand your current state of health
  • provide safe and effective management of your health during your weight loss journey
  • collaborate with you, so that we can tailor our approach accordingly

Screening Call

The clinician will call you to review the information on your questionnaire and discuss next steps.

Day 1 – Face to Face / Virtual Assessment

At this appointment, Dr Malak or Dr Tourle will conduct a thorough assessment, including discussion of your medical history, your lifestyle, and weight loss goals. Our doctor will also:

  • help you to understand your barriers to weight loss
  • provide you with lifestyle advice relevant to you personally
  • offer you coaching during your weight loss journey

At this appointment, your clinician will discuss appropriate treatment options based on your assessment and guide you through any necessary self-management techniques.

Initial Reviews - 7 and 14

You will receive a telephone consultation with a clinician, to discuss any side effects, issues or concerns that you might be experiencing.

Week 4 - Face to Face / Virtual Review

At your review appointment during week 4, you will be reassessed to determine your weight loss progress. If attending in person, you will initially be seen by the nurse, who will weigh you and take body measurements.

For virtual appointments, please ensure you have access to a scale to measure your weight and measuring tape for video consultation. The nurse will guide you through the process during your virtual session.

After the initial assessment, you will be seen by a clinician, who will review your progress, adjust your lifestyle advice if necessary, and tailor your ongoing support to ensure it remains effective.

Further Reviews

These will continue every 4 weeks to optimise your weight loss and where necessary make any necessary adjustments to your ongoing care.

Do I have to tell my GP that I am taking weight loss treatments?

Yes. For your safety and continuity of care, we require that your regular GP is informed of any treatment initiated through our service. This ensures your wider healthcare team is aware of your weight management plan and can support you appropriately.

Do the recommended treatments cause any side effects?

This will be discussed with the GP at your consultation.

How do I obtain my weight loss treatments?

If you are eligible, treatment is provided through SDHC following the initial assessment.

Is there a long-term commitment to this service?

There is no obligation for you to keep using this service. However, any treatment plan should be discussed with your clincian before making changes to ensure safe discontinuation and ongoing support.
