Our Service

The weight loss service we provide at SDHC is different from most other weight loss services because we offer both face-to-face and virtual appointments designed to support you safely throughout your weight loss journey, including medical interventions (where appropriate) designed to help you control food cravings, delay stomach emptying, and keep you feeling fuller, for longer.

Unlike online weight loss services, our service is delivered by qualified GPs and nurses, who will ensure that your weight loss journey is safe and supported.

If you are interested in our supported weight management service, please complete our questionnaire. Once submitted, one of our clinicians will review your responses and get back to you.

If you have completed our weight loss questionnaire but have not heard from us within 72 hours, please call us on 01323 402790 for assistance.

Please note: In line with UK advertising regulations and ASA guidance, we are unable to promote or specify the contents of our medical interventions on this website. If you would like more information about the clinical options available and what they may involve, please contact us via the number listed above.

Our service approach

We want to provide a cost-efficient service that ensures that you are as safe as you can possibly be, the whole way through your weight loss journey. To ensure that you are safe every step of the way, we offer both face-to-face and virtual supported weight management appointments. Whether you prefer to visit us in person or receive support remotely via video consultations, you’ll get expert guidance and care tailored to your needs.

Our clinicians will guide you through safe self-management techniques as part of your treatment plan. Our online video consultations allow us to physically see you, providing the same level of care and support as in-person visits.

Our Clinicians

Our Medical Director Dr Miriam Malak is an expert in lifestyle medicine. Miriam has undertaken specialist training with the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine and is fully accredited by the National Medical Weight Loss Programme. Miriam is supported by GPs and registered nurses who have been specially trained in weight loss.

Can anyone have weight loss treatments?

No, not everyone. It is essential that before starting any treatment, you undergo a full assessment by our doctor to consider and discuss:

  • your current health issues and other treatments
  • your medical history
  • your BMI
  • the likely benefits of weight loss for you
  • the treatments possible side effects

This assessment is necessary to rule out current or past conditions, such as medullary thyroid cancer, a history of gallbladder disease or pancreatitis, as taking weight loss treatments could put you at risk of serious complications.

What if I am not medically eligible for weight loss treatments?

We know that you might be disappointed not to have weight loss injections, but we want to ensure that you stay safe and healthy. Our doctors are specialist in all aspects of weight loss – with or without injections. They will work with you to start your weight loss journey and support you along the way with lifestyle guidance.

You will be asked to complete a Pre-Appointment Questionnaire. This is to allow us to

  • fully understand your current state of health
  • provide safe and effective management of your health during your weight loss journey
  • collaborate with you, so that we can tailor our approach accordingly
Screening Call

The clinician will call you to review the information on your questionnaire and discuss next steps.

Day 1 –

Face to Face / Virtual
Assessment

At this appointment, Dr Malak or Dr Tourle will conduct a thorough assessment, including discussion of your medical history, your lifestyle, and weight loss goals. Our doctor will also:

  • help you to understand your barriers to weight loss
  • provide you with lifestyle advice relevant to you personally
  • offer you coaching during your weight loss journey

At this appointment, your clinician will discuss appropriate treatment options based on your assessment and guide you through any necessary self-management techniques.

Initial Reviews -

7 and 14

You will receive a telephone consultation with a clinician, to discuss any side effects, issues or concerns that you might be experiencing.

Week 4 –

For virtual appointments, please ensure you have access to a scale to measure your weight and measuring tape for video consultation. The nurse will guide you through the process during your virtual session.

After the initial assessment, you will be seen by a clinician, who will review your progress, adjust your lifestyle advice if necessary, and tailor your ongoing support to ensure it remains effective.

Further Reviews These will continue every 4 weeks to optimise your weight loss and where necessary make any necessary adjustments to your ongoing care.
